Retail shop

Every piece in the shop was designed, 3D printed, and hand finished in our Ames, Iowa shop, then packed and shipped by the same people who made it. Nothing is drop-shipped and nothing sat in a warehouse overseas. Planters, dice towers, cosplay masks, display models, desk pieces, and a long tail of things that do not fit a category. If you want one in a different color, or you want something that is not in the catalog at all, ask. We own the printers.

It all ships from AmesDesigned, printed, finished, packed, and shipped out of one shop in central Iowa. When you have a question about your order, you are talking to the people who made it.

One-off custom 3D printing for individuals

The shop is what we keep on the shelf. It is not the limit of what we make. A lot of what leaves here is one of a kind, built for one person, from a sketch, a photo, or a broken part sitting on a kitchen counter. You do not need a CAD file and you do not need to know what material you want. Tell us what it is and what it has to do.

Cosplay and propsMasks, armor pieces, weapons, and set dressing. Sculpted, printed, and hand finished to whatever detail level you are after.

TabletopMinis, terrain, dice towers, and trays. Fine detail resin for the small stuff, tough filament for the pieces that get handled every week.

The part you cannot buyThe knob, clip, bracket, or gear that is discontinued. Send a photo with a ruler next to it and we will work from that.

Put a name on itNames, dates, and short text on most designs. Weddings, teams, teachers, and the person who already owns everything.

Your color, your sizeMost catalog pieces can run in a different color, a different material, or scaled up and down. Same design, made for you.

Bulk and eventsParty favors, market stock, team gifts, and event giveaways. Tell us the quantity and the date you need it in hand.

How to start: send a photo, a sketch, a link, or a model file. Rough is fine. We come back with what it would take, what it would cost, and how long it would run, and nothing gets made until you say go.

How it works.

Stock, custom, and everything in between

In stockListed items ship from what is actually on the shelf. The count on the card is the count in the bin.

Sold outWe printed it here and we still have the file, so most pieces can be run again. Message us with the listing and we will confirm before you pay.

Custom colorMessage us before you order. We keep a wide color range on the shelf and can source more.

PersonalizationNames, dates, and short text on designs with room for it. Ask before ordering so we can confirm it fits. Personalized pieces are made to order and are not returnable.

Bulk and eventsTen of something or two hundred. Tell us the quantity and the date, and we will tell you if it fits.

ShippingPacked and shipped from our shop in Ames, Iowa. The person who packed it is the person who made it.

If it breaksSend a photo and tell us what happened. If it failed on its own, we replace it. If it was dropped or pushed past what the piece is built for, we will quote a replacement.

Variety Vault is a production 3D printing shop in Ames, Iowa. The same machines that run housings and brackets for manufacturers run the display models and planters in this catalog. That is why the retail side holds up: it is made on industrial equipment by people who print for a living, not on a hobby machine in a spare room.
